How can we find out what we really want to do in life?

Tom: How can we find out what we really want to do in life?

Guru: Great question.

Tom: Then, give me a great answer.

Guru: Okay. You can find out by answering four questions.

Tom: Which are?

Guru: First, what can you do for a long time and without monetary reward?

Tom: Yes, if I can do something for a long time and without monetary reward, then I must be doing it out of interest.

Guru: Second, imagine you’ve all the money in the world and you don’t need to work for a living. What would you like to do?

Tom: Yes, if I don’t have to work for a living, then I would like to do something which is in line with my interest and mission in life.

Guru: Third, imagine you only have six months to live. What would you like to do?

Tom: Yes, I would then definitely do something that is important and meaningful to me, something dearest to my heart.

Guru: Fourth, imagine you’re on your death bed and looking back into your life. Have you any regrets?

Tom: Yes, if I don’t have any regrets, it means that I’ve done everything I had wanted to do. But if I’ve any regrets, it means that there’s something I had wanted to do but didn’t do.

Guru: Splendid and if the answers to all four questions are the same?

Tom: Then I’ve found out what I really want to do.
